'Quiet' no more, I court, II to avoid 'study pressure' suicide issue

  "I quit"! These two words were written in black ink on the wall of the hostel room. The body of Jai Lobo, the engineering student in the film 'Three Idiots', was hanging from a twisted noose on the ceiling fan. This time the Delhi High Court expressed concern about the incident of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the country's top level educational institution in the field of technology. In the past few years, IITs have seen one student suicide after another. In 2023, two scheduled caste students committed suicide at Delhi IIT. The Delhi High Court's observation in a case filed in that incident—mental health of students is more important than marks. The court said the IIT authorities should make students understand that getting good marks is not the most important thing in life.
